Hello!
A few months ago, I wrote a post on how I had cleared my skin of fairly bad acne (which you can view here).
In it, I explained that I had been prescribed a strong medication that had a range of difficult and severe side effects, including dry skin, dry lips, and aching muscles.
It has now been around 6 months since I finished taking my course of Roaccutane, and I thought some people may find it helpful to know how I have found the first 6 months.
By the time I stopped taking Roaccutane, my skin was as clear as it had been since I was around 11 or 12, which I was extremely pleased with.
Some of the side effects, including dry skin and particularly dry lips, continued to be a bit of an issue for around a month or so after I stopped taking the medication. However, I just made sure I carried around a lip balm (I recommend Carmex!) around with me at all times, which I was pretty used to at this point!
Acne-wise, my skin has remained fairly clear since finishing taking Roaccutane, I have only had the usual spot here or there, which I am so pleased about. The dryness went away after around a month and my skin is (thankfully) back to its usual combination self, and my lips are no longer horrendously dry.
Obviously, the effects of Roaccutane will be different for everyone, but I found that the side effects cleared up about as quickly as I expected, and my skin has stayed clear for a whole 6 months. If anyone has difficulties with acne and have the opportunity, I would definitely recommend trying Roaccutane, because although the side effects are difficult to deal with at times, I found that it was definitely worth it in the end!
Thanks for reading!
Menna
