As I said in my 'Books to Read in 2015' post, I wanted to finish reading About a Boy by Nick Hornby.
I finally finished reading it this evening, so I thought I would write a short review sharing what I thought of it!
I absolutely loved this book. I have started to read it a couple of times, but never found the time to finish it, but I'm honestly so glad I did.
It tells the story of the unlikely friendship that forms between 12-year-old Marcus and 36-year-old Will, and the stories of all the people around them.
The film adaptation of this is one of my favourites, so I was really excited to compare the two.
I haven't actually seen the film for quite a while, but I seem to remember that there were quite a few similarities between the film and the book, which I really enjoyed.
I really liked how the book touches on sensitive issues yet still manages to be light-hearted and humourous all the way through. I couldn't help but to become fond of Marcus and his mannerisms (even if they are a little odd), and I had even grown to like Will by the end. I loved the way the book resolved, as it was so simple but it also felt so completed, and I really enjoyed the fact that the chapters alternated between Marcus's point of view and Will's point of view.
I recently read High Fidelity, also by Nick Hornby, which I enjoyed just as much, so I hope to read some more of his books soon.
I'm still struggling for ideas on what to write about - suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks for reading,
Menna :)
