Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg
I received this album for my birthday in March, and instantly fell in love with it. Obviously, I'd heard some of his hits before listening to the full album, such as Lightning Bolt and Two Fingers, but listening to the full album -as it always does- introduced me to some of the less well-known songs such as Broken, Simple as This, and Slide (which is my personal favourite). I still haven't properly listened to his second album, Shangri La, but I'm pretty sure I'd like it just as much as this album.
Dog Is Dead - All Our Favourite Stories
I bought this CD for £1 in HMV in their clearance, having heard a few of their songs including Teenage Daughter and Glockenspiel Song. Although I was pretty sure I'd enjoy the album, I was pleasantly surprised at just how much I did! I have it on repeat while tidying my bedroom, as a lot of the songs are quite upbeat and good to work to. As I have the deluxe edition, I particularly enjoyed the track at the end called All Our Favourite Outtakes, which is just a 5 minute track of the band arguing between recordings, which was quite amusing to listen to.
X - Ed Sheeran
I doubt it will be a surprise to anybody who knows me that this was one of my favourites in 2014. I got the physical CD for Christmas but I was listening to the full album on Spotify long before that. My favourite songs from this album include Nina, Tenerife Sea, Photograph and Thinking Out Loud. I can't quite decide if I prefer this album or his first one, but I think that, actually, they are too different even to compare. This is my revision album, so I play 2 or 3 times one after the other. I enjoy this as it motivates me to revise more, and it means I learn the words far more quickly!
Tom Odell - Long Way Down
I have loved Tom Odell ever since I read about him in Q magazine a couple of years ago. I listened to a few songs such as Another Love and Grow Old With Me, and for Christmas of 2013 I received the physical album - which I was very happy about! I used to listen to this album a lot while in the kitchen, either cooking or working. Unfortunately, I can't find this album anywhere at the moment, which I'm really annoyed about as it was one of my absolute favourites! The songs I particularly like from this album are I Know, Sense, and Long Way Down, although I can honestly say that I love every song.
Obviously, there was a lot of other music that I enjoyed in the past year, including Taylor Swift's 1989, Michael Buble's Christmas album (of course), Alas I Cannot Swim by Laura Marling, and loads more. I hope to discover and rediscover more great music this year!
